Surprise! Back again! No pictures today as it is raining and foggy here but we've made the best of it. This morning we drove out on the peninsula through Oysterville to the Leadbetter Point State Park. It was surprising being on such a narrow strip of land and one still can't see the ocean because of the forests and houses that have been built between the road and the ocean. It is also interesting to see some really beautiful homes and then right next door, an old trailer with lots of junk around it.

After some of Arda's homemade soup, we went to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center which is located on Cape Disappointment.  The cape was named on April 12, 1788 by British fur trader John Meares who was sailing south from Nootka in search of trade.  After a storm, he turned his ship around just north of the Cape and therefore just missed the discovery of the Columbia River.  Alternatively, the cape may have been named in Nov. 1805 by a member of the Lewis & Clark Expedition, when he found no ships in the vicinity, according to the journal of the expedition as recited in the Ken Burns documentary.  Regardless of how it was named, it was interesting to see the trip L & C made and the difficulties they faced. Arda still likes to take the highway...

Back in the trailer and we will leave tomorrow for points south.

Keep your loops open.
