We left Calgary this morning after saying goodbye to Vicki & Al… they came to the campsite to have a last coffee and say goodbye.  I really think they just wanted to make sure we left town!  After a week of Al’s excellent cooking, both Arda and I need to “thin out” again.  He sure kept us well fed and watered… was that really water we were drinking?

Here are some pictures of our stay at Rocky Mountain House and Calgary…
Arda is or has a cold so isn’t all that perky today so it is a good thing she just has to sit there and look pretty – oh and sleep a little too.   She is missing some of the snow that is on the Rockies… it is still only August folks but it is already down to the 5500’ level.  Brrrrrrrrrrrrr

We drove through a lot of Indian Reservations today – Kiowa, Flathead, Blackfoot, and maybe others that didn’t have any signs – or smoke-signals J.  We also passed by the Two Sister’s Restaurant on Two Dog Flats in Montana.

We headed south thinking we would go over the Rockies through Logan’s Pass in Montana but unfortunately they have a 21’ length restriction so we had to drive further south to highway 2 again.  We stopped at West Glacier and are going to stay here in the national park for a couple of days… another beautiful park.

We spent the night here and it is a good thing we have a heater as the outside temps were only 38.  Between the generator (electric heater) and the propane furnace we were as snug as a bug in a rug… at least I was.  Arda’s temperature oscillated between very hot and very cold.  She is really fighting bug so today we ran a couple or errands and then drove up to Logan’s Pass.  This was a very interesting road where they tell people to put their mirrors in and then add construction into the mix plus driving into the clouds with almost zero visibility.  Oh yeah, forgot about the hail we ran into as well.

Logan’s Pass is the peak of the Great Divide at just over 6600’.  What really interested me was the fact that just southeast of the Logan’s Pass is a Triple Divide where a hands-width can determine if rain runs into the Columbia (Pacific Ocean), Mississippi (Gulf of Mexico) or Saskatchewan (Hudson Bay) river-systems.  The pictures really don’t do it justice but maybe it will whet your appetite to see these magnificent places.

Had a great dinner tonight… wine, pork tenderloin on the grill and salad plus a couple of cookies J.  Arda also fulfilled her life-long dream of starting a fire all by herself, and I have the movie to prove it!  It really is neat sitting by the fire, eating, and listening to the quiet.
                                                                   Arda, the fire bug
Lots of rain all night and most of the morning…  Arda matched it with her coughing which of course kept her awake so it was a long night.  Long nights equal short days as we only drove until 2:30 and called it a day.  It was a strange day as we drove through beautiful mountains bathed in sunshine and then drenched in heavy rain storms.  In fact, it rained so hard I couldn’t even hear Arda when she was talking which of course got me in trouble again J.  We stopped at Wally-Mart in Ponderay, ID for some supplies and then went to a campground just down the road.  Hopefully Arda will feel better tomorrow.

Until next time, keep your loops open!
